Money being deducted through AutoPay? Know how to stop it in just a few seconds”

If money is being deducted from your account without informing you, then it is possible that you have set up UPI AutoPay for some service.

Nowadays people use AutoPay for services like mobile recharge, electricity bill, OTT platforms (like Netflix, Amazon Prime) or insurance premium. This eliminates the hassle of making payments again and again. But the problem arises when you stop using that service and yet money keeps getting deducted every month.

So let’s know how you can turn off UPI AutoPay in a few seconds and avoid unnecessary expenses.

What is UPI AutoPay?

It is a digital facility that allows you to set an ‘e-mandate’ for any service through UPI. Once you turn on AutoPay for a service, the payment will be automatically deducted from your account on the due date — without any reminders or manual process.

What is it used for?

  1. Mobile or DTH recharge
  2. Electricity or water bill
  3. Insurance premium
  4. EMI or loan installment
  5. Mutual fund SIP
  6. Gym fees or online classes fees

How to turn off AutoPay Mandate?

If you are no longer using that service and do not want money to be deducted, then follow the easy steps given below:

  1. Open your UPI app – such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm etc.
  2. Go to Settings or Profile section.
  3. Tap on ‘AutoPay’ or ‘Mandates’ option.
  4. A list of all active services will appear.
  5. Select the service you want to stop.
  6. Click on ‘Cancel’ or ‘Revoke’.

After doing this, money will no longer be deducted automatically from that service.

What to do if money is deducted by mistake?

If a payment has been deducted without your knowledge and you have not used that service, then first contact the customer support of that company. Some companies give the option of refund within 24 to 72 hours of payment.

If you do not get help from the company, then you can also contact your bank and request to block such transactions.

  1. Think twice before setting AutoPay for any new service.
  2. Keep checking old and unused subscriptions from time to time.
  3. Do not ignore bank SMS or UPI notifications.
