The Government of India has issued an important security alert for crores of Android users. This warning is about those devices which run on Qualcomm’s chipsets. This alert has been issued by CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) in which it has been told that serious security flaws have been found in these devices. These vulnerabilities were first reported by Google’s Threat Analysis Group.

According to CERT-In, taking advantage of these security flaws, cyber criminals can steal sensitive data from your device and hack the phone through arbitrary coding.

Which Qualcomm chipsets are at risk?

This month’s security bulletin has been placed in the ‘high risk’ category. It has been told that several serious flaws have been found simultaneously in many popular chipsets, GPUs and Wi-Fi modems of Qualcomm. According to the bulletin, models like Snapdragon 480+ 5G, Snapdragon 662, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and even the recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (2024 flagship chip) are also affected. In view of these threats, Qualcomm has alerted all its partners, users and business clients.

What steps has Qualcomm taken so far?

According to CERT-In, Qualcomm is aware of these threats and it is feared that some of these flaws may have already been exploited by cybercriminals.

If your phone works on Qualcomm chipset, then immediately install May 2025 Android Security Patch. This can protect your device from these threats.

How to update:

1. Go to the phone’s Settings

2. Scroll down and select System Updates

3. Tap on Check for update

4. Install the new update if found

5. Reboot the phone

6. Now your phone will be protected with the latest security update.
