Let us tell you that iOS 18 was to be launched after iOS 17, but the company has introduced it as iOS 26 to keep pace with 2026. Now Apple users will get updates named iPadOS 26, MacOS 26, WatchOS 26 and VisionOS 26.
For which iPhone models will iOS 26 be available?
The iOS 26 update will be available to iPhone 11 and all subsequent models as a free over-the-air (OTA) update. But only iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro users will get the benefit of Apple Intelligence features.
Big change in design – ‘Liquid Glass’ UI
According to Apple’s Senior Vice President Craig Federighi, a new design called ‘Liquid Glass’ has been introduced in iOS 26 which comes with transparent elements and reflective graphics. This new design looks very attractive in app icons, widgets and controls. With its help, now the home screen and lock screen can be more personalized. Now the time (Clock) on the lock screen automatically gets smaller and bigger according to the image and when you shake the iPhone, 3D effects are also visible on the screen.
These new features will be available in Apple Intelligence
Apple has also expanded its AI features and added many new features.
- Live Translation: Now you will get automatic translation of different languages on messages, phone calls or FaceTime.
- Visual Intelligence: Now you can ask questions to AI tools like Siri or ChatGPT about any content appearing on the screen.
- AI Shortcuts and Writing Tools: Now AI will automatically recognize emails, invoices and messages and give a summary of it.
- Genmoji and custom emoji: Users will be able to create emojis of their choice.
Changes in phone and messaging apps too
Now call history, favorites and voicemail will be available on the same screen in the Phone app. Through the Call Screening feature, AI itself takes information from the caller and tells the user whether the call should be picked up or not. In Messages, messages from unknown numbers will now go to a separate folder. Also, features like creating polls, creating AI-based background and typing indicator have also been added. Along with this, the company has also introduced the Hold Assist feature, with the help of which now AI will wait for the caller’s answer on the phone for you while on hold in the call.
New features of Apple Music, Maps and AirPods
Apple Music has added AI based features like Lyrics Translation and AutoMix which give smooth transitions to songs. A new feature called “Visited Places” has now been added to Maps which tracks your visited places. Camera Remote feature has now come for AirPods users, so that you can press the camera shutter or start/stop video recording with the help of AirPods.
Entry of CarPlay and new apps
CarPlay will now have a small notification view for calls so that there will be no interruption in navigation. Also, features like Tapback and Live Activities have been added to Messages. Apple has also launched a new app which is Apple Games. It will become a one-stop hub of gaming for iPhone users.
What is special in WatchOS 26
The company has also added many new features in the WatchOS 26 update. In this, the company has added a feature called Workout Buddy which is considered to be an AI fitness coach. This feature will help in keeping the user healthy and connected. Along with this, it will also give you many suggestions based on your fitness history. Not only this, now users wearing Apple Watch will get suggestions according to their location.
MacOS and TVOS 26 update
The company has added the Spotlight feature in the macOS update. Let us tell you that with the help of this feature, now Mac users will be able to quickly search anything in the entire system. Also, you will be able to easily sync Apple iPhone apps to your MacBook. However, for this you will have to use Apple Mirroring.
At the same time, in the tvOS update, the company has given the user the option to set different profiles. Now every member of the house will be able to set their different profiles on TV.
